This year the Tara Festival of Culture and Camel Races is pleased to announce a Fashions On The Field competition being added to the festivities! The entry categories focus on Diverse Cultural attire and Festival Fun for the fashion faux par or costumed inclined.

Saturday: 9am to 11:30am 

Please register at the Registration Desk, located north side of the Bar.

 

Judging – In front of the Grand Stand (on the Yabbie Platform)

First round: 12pm
Second Round:  1:30pm

 

Prize Pool

Under 15 Individual  Festival Fun and Standout Cultural = $25 each category + ribbon

Under 15 Runner up Festival Fun and Standout Cultural – all other entrants receive a small entry prize, as well as children in other categories that do not receive a prize. Special mention prizes will also be given in these categories.

Best group / duo Standout Cultural = $400 cash + 2 sashes

Runner up= $200 cash + 2 Sashes

Best group / duo Festival Fun = $400 cash + 2 sashes
Runner up= $200 cash + 2 Sashes

Best individual Standout Cultural = $200 cash + sash
Runner up= $100 cash + Sash

Best individual Festival Fun = $200 cash + sash
Runner up= $100 cash + sash

 

Competition Guidelines

Overall competition guidelines to consider:

1. Appropriateness of the outfit for the particular event and conditions.

Our festival is held in the last month of winter. The days have just begun to warm again but there is still a chill at night. Average temperatures are between 5.4C – 22.8C.

2. Originality and confidence.

The entrant’s personality and willingness to think outside the square should be obvious in their outfit. Entrants should look confident and happy in their outfit and wear something that makes them stand out in a positive manner.

3. Attention to detail

Judges will be looking for an overall cohesive look. The sum of all the entrant outfit parts will add up to a visually pleasing look. 

4. Grooming and deportment.

Entrants will be judged according to not only their outfit but the way they carry themselves on stage. Hair and makeup will be considered by the judges.

5. Categories Specific Rules

Festival Fun

These categories are for those that are proudly fashion faux par, whose festival attire could be described as costumed, or even a bit of cosplay.  

Any outfit of a hazardous, discriminatory or offensive nature will be prohibited from entry.

 

Standout Cultural

These categories are for attendees dressed to represent diverse cultural attire. This category is designed to celebrate culture through clothing.

No ‘costumes’ that present aspects of another culture in a joking fashion. Outfits deemed to fit this description by festival staff will be unable to register for this category.

 

Under 15s

This category is for children aged under 15 years only, however children are welcome to be part of group entries.

 

Most of all, remember that while there is a judging criteria, the competition is as much about being yourself, and letting your personality shine through in your look.
